The Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) has had requests for more detail on industry placement processes by some educators seeking guidance on best practice principles in industry placements. This document provides best practice guidelines for organising industry placements.

This document was submitted by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) in response to the Digital Transformation Discussion Paper.

This is the sixth annual ALIA LIS Education, Skills and Employment Trend Report. Our intention is to provide students, educators, employees and employers with an understanding of the national library and information science (LIS) landscape, and the Association with the data we need to help inform our approach as the sector’s peak professional body.

Over the last five years, that TAFEs have been reducing their investment in course coordinators (the administrative support role). This has a negative effect on the student experience and has serious implications for the capacity of lecturers in terms of delivering the course and ensuring that students graduate with a full understanding of the subjects they have taken. This has the potential to devalue the course and to damage the reputation of the TAFE institution and the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) as the accrediting body.

This is the fifth annual ALIA LIS education, skills and employment trend report. The report provides students, educators, employees and employers with an understanding of the national library and information science (LIS) landscape.
